Now lets show you how we created this look!

Heart nail art, valentine's day nail art, base coat nail varnish

First of all it is important to make sure your nails are clean and ready to be painted before we start, so we need to do a little bit of preparation. If you have nail varnish on already, you will need to take it off with some nail varnish remover. After this is done, I usually wash my hands just to just to ensure my nails are completely clean.

Then it’s time to tidy your nails up a little and shape them to how you want them with your file. If you want make your nails appear longer you can push back your cuticles. If you place your hand in some warm water for a few minutes, it will help soften your skin making it easier for you to do this.

Once you are ready, you should apply a base coat to your nail as this will protect your nails from being stained but also will make applying your nail varnish much smoother. We used the Vitamin Base Coat (1) to do this.

Once your base coat is dry (this shouldn’t take too long), we can start moving on to the more exciting parts – deciding what colour you want your nails to be! For this look, we decided to have the index finger as the main focus so we painted that nails with the nail varnish in the colour White Out (2) and the rest of the nails with the gorgeous red (3) nail varnish. We applied 2 coats of the nail varnish as this makes sure the nails are covered well.

We recommend you apply two thin coats rather than one thick one as the thicker the coat, the longer it will take to dry.

Once the white nail varnish is dry, it’s time to start creating the heart! We started with painting on the small one first which we will using to build the other coloured hearts around later on. To do this, we used the dotting pen (6) with the nail varnish in the colour Sweet Retreat (4).

After you’ve painted on the first heart, it’s time to do the next one! We left a small gap and then painted on a thin line shaped around the small heart. To do this, we used the dotting pen (6) with the nail varnish in the colour Neon Fest (5).

Now it’s time to add the final touches to this look. We used the same technique as in step 4 to do the next hearts using the dotting pen (6) with the nail varnish in the colour Double Decker Red (3).

And that’s how we created this heart nail look! It’s a gorgeous look for your nails this Valentine’s Day!

    1. Aww – thank you so much! It makes it all worth it when I get to read comments like this 🙂 yes! The red nail varnish is soo pretty, it’s definitely a favourite of mine for a colour to use! We wanted to add a little twist with the accent nail, and pretty happy with how it turned out as I wasn’t sure if this would work out well, haha!

  15. That’s a gorgeous look, and looks to easy too!
I actually have most of what I’d need for this, as I collect Rimmel nail varnish. I just don’t have a white.

    1. Thank you – yes it is quite an easy look. It was one of my favourites! Rimmel nail varnish is so good – for £2.99 it lasts really well. You could use a lighter pink colour as the base shade if you don’t have a white!

  16. This is extra cute! I think I’ll attempt this design (during the day so I don’t sleep on it like the last ) I cant wait to try this! Hopefully I can get it done tonight and as flat and clean as yours

  17. Haha, yeah – that could be a good idea! We’d love to see a picture if you do this look 😀
