Lines, Dots & Heart | Nail Art

Want to know how to create this lines, dots & heart nail look? Follow our 5 step guide below!

The products we used to create this look:

Nail varnish and nail art tools

1. Vitamin Base Coat – Natural Collection
2. 60 Seconds Super Shine – Rimmel London – Double Decker Red
3. 7 Day Wear Nail Polish – Collection – White Out
4. Dotting Pen
5. Flat Drawing Brush

Now lets show you how we created this look!

Lines, dots & heart nail art, valentine's day nail art, base coat nail varnish

STEP 1

First of all it is important to make sure your nails are clean and ready to be painted before we start, so we need to do a little bit of preparation. If you have nail varnish on already, you will need to take it off with some nail varnish remover. After this is done, I usually wash my hands just to just to ensure my nails are completely clean.

Then it’s time to tidy your nails up a little and shape them to how you want them with your file. If you want make your nails appear longer you can push back your cuticles. If you place your hand in some warm water for a few minutes, it will help soften your skin making it easier for you to do this.

Once you are ready, you should apply a base coat to your nail as this will protect your nails from being stained but also will make applying your nail varnish much smoother. We used the Vitamin Base Coat (1) to do this.

STEP 2

Once your base coat is dry (this shouldn’t take too long), we can start moving on to the more exciting parts – deciding what colour you want your nails to be! For this look, we decided to paint our nails with the gorgeous nail varnish in the colour Double Decker Red (2). We applied 2 coats of the nail varnish as this makes sure the nails are covered well.

We recommend you apply two thin coats rather than one thick one as the thicker the coat, the longer it will take to dry.

STEP 3

Once the red nail varnish is dry, it’s time to start creating this look! Firstly, we started with painting on the white lines to begin with. To do this, we used the flat drawing brush (5) with the nail varnish in the colour White Out (3). We spaced them out across the nails leaving small gaps for the dots to go in later, as well as leaving a gap on the ring finger where the heart will be going.

We painted the lines on the nails so it would look like they are joined up when the nails are together (you can see this in the bottom image!).

STEP 4

After you have finished with the lines, it’s time to add some dots in the small gaps you have left. To do this, we used the dotting pen (4) with the nail varnish in the colour White Out (3).

STEP 5

Now it’s time to add the final touches to this look. We painted on a small heart using the dotting pen (4) with the nail varnish in the colour White Out (3). As you can see in the picture, instead of bringing the heart down to a point, we painted lines to fit with the pattern, using the flat drawing brush (5).

And that’s how we created this lines, dots & heart nail look! It’s a gorgeous look for your nails this Valentine’s Day! It’s also perfect for everyday wear if you want a cute nail look, aswell as parties and any special occasion!

This looks amazing! So simple but effective. I think I have a lot of practising to do before I’m at this standard though!

Red nail varnish is definitely one of my favourite colours to use – it’s so pretty, so Valentine’s is such a perfect time to make good use of it 😀
