Pink Gellac Starter Kit | Review & Tutorial

Hey everyone! I am very excited to share this post as we have a bit of a different style post to usual – a review! We were kindly sent this Pink Gellac starter kit with an additional 3 gel polishes to try and review.

So, lets get started!

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel Polish, Red Gel Polish, Black Gel Polish
Gel polish is very useful for someone who may not have a lot of time to spend painting and waiting for normal nail polish to dry. Another huge benefit of gel polish is how long they last – majority of gel polish products say they will last chip free for up to 14 days!

I have used gel polish products before – I actually used to paint my nails with them quite often a few years ago, but at that time, I moved and got a new job where sadly, I wasn’t allowed to have my nails painted. When I left and started my apprenticeship, I was so happy to be able to paint my nails again! I was using products from the brand, Sensationail, so I was excited to try gel polish from a brand I hadn’t heard of or used their products before. I was quite surprised I hadn’t heard of them before to be honest!

So what is in the starter kit?

3. Pink Gellac Base²
4. Pink Gellac Colour – 182 Dynamic Pink
5. Pink Gellac Ultra Shine Top Coat

7. Cleaner pocket x10
8. Nail file
9. Orange Woodstick

Lets show you how you can paint your own gel manicure at home, using this starter kit!

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel PolishSTEP 1

First of all it is important to make sure your nails are clean and ready to be painted before we start, so we need to do a little bit of preparation. The first thing we need to do is gently push back the cuticles using the orange woodstick (9) – doing this will help make your nails appear longer! If you place your hand in some warm water for a few minutes, it will help soften your skin making it easier for you to do this.

Once you have pushed your cuticles back, it’s time to “scrub your nails”. To do this, you want to use the pink side of the nail file (8) that comes with your starter kit. Doing this help prepares your nails but also removes dead skin cells and ridges on your nails. Then using the white side of the file, you want to tidy your nails up a little and shape them to how you want them to be.

Once you have finished shaping your nails, you need to use the cleaner pocket (7) to clean your nails. This will make sure your nails are oil-free ready for the gel polish!

After you have cleaned them, you want to apply the primer (2) to the tips of the nails – do not apply it to the entire nail! Allow the primer to air dry for 10 seconds.

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel PolishSTEP 3

After you have let the primer air dry, it’s time for the fun to begin as we start with the gel polish! The first gel polish we will be using is the base² (3). You want to apply a thin coat of it to your nails, and then cure it under the LED lamp (1) for 15 seconds.

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel PolishSTEP 4

Now it’s time to paint the pretty colour on your nails! As the starter kit came with the gel polish in the colour Pink Dynamic (4), we decided to use this one for the tutorial (isn’t it gorgeous?!). You want to apply a thin coat of the gel polish on your nails, and then cure it under the LED lamp (1) for 60 seconds.

You want to repeat this step and apply another thin coat of the gel polish to your nails, as this makes sure the coverage of the colour is gorgeous!

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel PolishSTEP 5

The final step is to apply the ultra shine top coat. To do this, all you need to do is apply a thin coat of the ultra shine (5) top coat and then cure it under the LED lamp (1) for 60 seconds.

Once you have cured the top coat, use the cleaner pocket (7) to remove the sticky coat and then you are all good to go!

Repeat the previous steps to paint the gel polish onto your thumb to complete your gel polish manicure!

Pink Gellac Starter Kit, Gel Polish, Pink Gel Polish, Removal Of Gel Polish

In order to remove the Pink Gellac gel polish, there are a few things you need to do. Firstly, you need to remove the ultra shine top coat from your nails by using the white side of your nail file (8) to “scrub your nails”. Your nails should look similar to what you can see in the photo above. Make sure you do not file too much though!

Once you have removed the top coat, it’s time to get the remover pockets (6). You want to tear the bottom of the pocket, place your finger in it with the nail touching the pad and then wrap the pocket firmly around your finger. There is a small bit of plastic that you can remove on the front of the remover pocket (6) that will uncover a sticky section that will help you firmly wrap it around your finger! You want to leave the wraps on for at least 10-15 minutes, depending on how many layers of gel polish you painted on.

After allowing the gel polish to soak for 10-15 minutes in the wraps, I recommend removing one of the wraps to see if there is lifting of the polish around the edges. If there is, they are ready for the next part. If there isn’t, gently put the wrap back on and leave them to soak for a bit longer.

When you see the gel polish is lifting at the edges, it’s time to move on to the last part of the removal process! You want to use the orange woodstick (9) to remove the gel polish by starting at the edge of the gel polish (where it has lifted), and gently pushing along the nail to lift it up. Make sure you do not push too hard as you don’t want to damage the nail! You can then use the pink side of the nail file (8) to remove any small bits of remaining polish, and also tidy up your nails.

Overall thoughts?

I have used these products quite a few times now, and I have been really impressed with Pink Gellac. Their starter kit comes with everything you need to create a gel manicure at home. It is perfect for someone that may not have experience with using gel products before, as the kit has everything you need and is so easy to use. As well as my tutorial showing you how to create the perfect gel manicure, the kit also comes with a manual that explains what you need to do from preparing the nails, to applying the Pink Gellac gel polishes and removing it.

I also love the colour of the gel polish that came with the kit, Dynamic Pink – it is such a gorgeous colour! As you can see in the photo’s below, the rest of the polishes we were gifted are gorgeous too. Let us know in the comments below which is your favourite! They have such a variety of colours available on their website, with new ones coming out quite regularly! If you would like to see all the gorgeous colours they have available, you can view them on their website here: Pink Gellac (UK), Pink Gellac (US). In addition, the shine is incredible – the name ‘Ultra Shine Top Coat’ matches it perfectly. These polishes easily lasted the 14 days. When I had the gel polish in the colour vintage nude on, it lasted 3 weeks!

I didn’t really have any issues with this starter kit, however there are a few things I would comment on. Firstly, as the base coat needs to be cured under the LED lamp for 15 seconds – you need to make sure you time this. The LED lamp beeps when it’s been on for 30 seconds, and then turns off after 60 seconds but there is no indication for the 15 second mark. Also, I did notice a few scuff marks on some of the nails after having it on for about a week or so. Although this wasn’t really too noticeable, especially from far away, I did notice it when looking closely at my nails.

And that’s it! My first review done! I hope you enjoyed reading it and found it useful. I’d love to know what you think in the comments and if you’d like to see more reviews!

  1. Great review! I feel like I don’t really hear about many nail products so this post was super interesting for me! That dynamic pink is such a pretty shade! I love the vintage nude colour the most though!

    1. Thank you! You are right, I don’t really see that many posts about nail products – it’s more the beauty with make up side of things. Maybe I should try and write more review type posts! They are so pretty, aren’t they?! I think my favourite is the vintage nude one too! 🙂

  2. This looks pretty straightforward to do, and the finished product looks stunning! I enjoyed reading your review as well. I’m always on the hunt for new products.

    1. It is quite straightforward really! It’s very easy and pretty quick, especially as you don’t have to wait long time for the products to dry compared to normal nail polish. Thank you, I’m so happy to hear that – it’s the first review type of post that I’ve done 😀

  3. I have never used gel nail polish at home. It sounds like this kit is the way to go. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I don’t think you really hear about it too much, especially with the home kits! I hadn’t heard of it before I used the Sensationail products a few years ago, it’s not really something I hear people talk about that often either as I think people see it more as a thing you have done out! It is a very useful starter kit, thank you 🙂

  4. I really love the colors you were sent! I haven’t tried gel nail polish before but I might have to give it a try, nail polish that lasts longer seems like it might be worth the investment.

    1. They are so pretty, aren’t they?! I hadn’t really heard of it before or used it before I tried out the Sensationail brand a few years ago, and only touched it again when I tried these out. It is really good with how long they last. This brand the bottles are also really big in comparison to other ones I’ve seen, so I can imagine they last so long! 🙂

  5. I haven’t heard of gel polish until now! I feel like this is perfect for me because I always have to do things at home @[email protected] I really need this in my life! Love that it is easy to use and it’s great for people who want basic colored nails (like me, hahah). Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Nancy ♥

    1. Oh really?! Well there you go, you learnt something new today! 😀 Yeah, they are REALLY useful when you have things to do, gel polishes tend to last soo much longer and with how quick the process is as it dries after you have cured it means you can get on with whatever you need to do. Haha, whatever you decide to do with your nails – one colour, nail art etc. will always look gorgeous on your nails I’m sure! 😀 There are so many colours available too!

  6. Wow, I need this starter kit 🙂 Just like Nancy I love basic nail colors and would love to wear them on my nails for a long time!

Lots of love ♥ January Girl

    1. The starter kits are really useful as it does come with everything you need! It’s also great that they last so long, and how quick they dry. It’s quite quick the process from start to finish! All colours and designs are gorgeous on nails 😀

  7. You’ve done a superb job, especially for a first review. I have been curious about gel nail polish for a long looooooong time, so maybe this is going to be my first gel polish kit 🙂

    1. Thank you SO much! I haven’t written a review type post before, so I wanted to make sure I included the important parts and not write too much etc. I was hoping I got the right balance, especially as I included the tutorial part too 😀 Gel polish is very useful, especially when you want to paint your nails quickly. There is no “drying” time as you cure it under the LED lamp, so it means you can just get up and go once you are done! I’d love to know your thoughts if you do end up getting a starter kit 🙂

  8. This is a great review! I don’t do gellac often coz last time it damaged my nails so much! love the colours though!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so happy to hear that, I’ve never done a review before so it was quite an experience. I wanted to make sure I included all the important things and wrote it well for people 🙂 aww, that’s a shame. You do have to be quite careful when taking it off, but each person is different. Normal nail polish is great to use too 🙂

  9. They look pretty good for a DIY at home. Great review, it’s a shame there’s no 15 second mark. I’ve looked into home kits before but I’ve never heard of this one before! x

    1. It is pretty good for someone to do gel polish at home as it makes it really easy. It saves having to spend more money on getting your nails down at a nail place, as the bottles of gel polish last quite a while! Thank you so much, I’m so happy to hear that 🙂 it is a shame about no 15 second mark, that was one of the main problems I had as you had to make sure you were timing it and didn’t over do it! I hadn’t heard of this brand before either until I was contacted about this starter kit! 🙂

  10. Oooh congrats on your first review!! It’s nice to see something a little different from you guys, as much as I always adore your usual posts 🙂 I only recently tried gel nails and 2 and a half weeks later, they’re still clinging on! I really need to get myself some of those remover pockets… The starter kit really does sound fabulous and like a perfect gift for Christmas too, my mum would love it! Unfortunately I’m awful with my shakey hands so I don’t think mine would turn out as brilliant as yours have. The black and red would have to be my favourite colours 🙂

    1. Aww thank you so much 😀 It was very fun to do, although I was quite nervous about sharing it as I haven’t written something like this before! I wanted to make sure included all the important bits! Gel polish is incredible with how long it can last, as I said – the vintage nude one lasted me about 3 weeks, and the only reason I took it off was because of the growth with my nails! Haha. The remover pockets were amazing, I’m not sure if this was just a starter kit kind of thing though?! But you can get the foil kind of wraps, I’ve used them before from Sensationail and they are really good. Yeah! I can imagine it would be a perfect gift for someone who is into their nails 🙂 haha, I’m sure yours would look amazing 🙂

  11. I don’t usually do my nails as I just find it time consuming but I’m definitely going to recommend this to my friends who do enjoy doing them. This was a great review and I liked how you mentioned each stage and had a photo showing them.

    1. Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked the tutorial and review! I thought it would be really helpful to show the different steps in a pictures so people have an idea of what to look for 🙂 I’d love to know what your friends think of this review 🙂

  12. Loved this review! I think at home gel products are so much cheaper than getting a gel manicure every month or so!

    1. Yay! Thank you 😀 I’m so happy to hear that! Gel products are so much cheaper, the bottles of gel polish are cheaper then having a gel manicure done at a nail place, and they also last so long because they are quite big (especially from this brand!) so you can definitely get many manicures from each one.

  13. Great review, I absolutely love getting my nails done, I love gels as they last so much longer, but I’d love to have my own kit as I end up spending a fortune getting my nails done! This looks like a great kit!
    Hels xx

    1. Thank you so much! Gel products do last so much longer then normal nail polish and it is very handy having your own kit. It would save you quite a lot of money as the bottles in general are cheaper and you are able to get a number of manicures out of them! It is a good starter kit for anyone 🙂

  14. This is such a brilliant review and your nails look gorgeous! My favourite colour is Dynamic Pink, such a bright and vibrant shade! I’ve never used a kit like this before, and wouldn’t have a clue what to do, so your step-by-step guide is really helpful and makes it sound quite straightforward. The end result looks incredible and I’m so impressed you can create this look at home, it looks so professional! <3 xx

    1. Aww, yay! I’m so happy to hear that 😀 I haven’t done a review before so I wasn’t sure how it would go, haha. It was quite fun to write though! That one is so pretty, isn’t it?! It is so bright, and they are so shiny too – it looks amazing! I’m so happy to hear that too! It can look a bit overwhelming when you see all the different products and the LED lamp, but it is quite straight forward and pretty easy! Thank you so much 😀 ❤

  15. This literally looks and sounds absolutely amazing, and the way you’ve set it up step by step makes it much easier too!

    Love, Amie ❤

    1. Thank you so much! 😀 I wanted to include the tutorial as it’s what we do, but I thought it would also be really helpful for someone who may not have used these type of products before as it can be quite overwhelming seeing all the items! I’m so happy to hear that I’ve made it much easier 😀

  16. I love those colours! I get my nails shellacked all the time! My nails feel so strong when I have it on them. You make your nails looks so perfect. I don’t have the patience anymore, as it I like it to look perfect!

    1. They are so pretty, aren’t they?! I haven’t actually had mine done before at a nail place, I’ve only ever painted my own nails! They do feel very strong when you have them painted though, I agree! Thank you so much 🙂 you do need a bit of patience, but these kits do make it nice and easy 🙂

  17. Great review! I do my own nails at home, it’s not this brand, but I really love having it at home 🙂

    Lainy x

    1. Thank you! They are really handy, aren’t they?! I’ve heard of a few brands, but I hadn’t really used any other ones other then Sensationail before I tried these ones out 🙂

  18. This was a great review and also really useful for doing your nails at home since it looks easy but gives good results! Also I really like the colours! Thanks for sharing x

    1. Thank you 😀 it is really useful if you want a long lasting nail look. The colours are gorgeous, aren’t they?! ❤

  19. My mum would love something like this – it looks really easy to use. I wish I’d seen this post before I bought her her Christmas presents!

    1. It actually is really easy to use! It’s very quick too especially if you compare it to having to wait for normal nail polish to dry. Aww, I’m sorry I didn’t post it sooner, it could be a birthday present or something next year! 🙂

  20. I’ve never tried gel polishes before, I always assumed they were too much faff but actually it looks like I was wrong! I love how clearly you’ve laid out all the steps and the great pictures too. I didn’t even realise you could do this at home either so I’ll definitely check this brand out. Having chip free nails for longer than 3 days would be a dream! Great review, thank you so much 🙂 xx

    1. When you see and hear about them, they do look and sound like they would be but it is surprisingly quite easy! Yay! I’m so happy to hear you loved the lay out, I did want to make sure I included the tutorial as that’s what we do here 😀 It’s amazing that you can do it at home, I can imagine it would definitely save a lot of money compared to people going and having their nails done in a nail place every few weeks. Haha, yeah they do last longer then 3 days 😛 Thank you so much! ❤

  21. Michelle Blackadar says:

great post! i’ve never used gel polish since i’m so bad about not picking my nail polish off but this is such a handy little starter kit. i love the colors that they offer that nude pink is speaking to me on a spiritual level.

    1. Thank you so much 🙂 I hadn’t used gel polish before till I tried out the Sensationail kit, and then had quite a bit of a gap between using that and this one but there are so many advantages of using the gel polish! It’s a lot tougher compared to normal nail polish so it might make it a bit more difficult for you to pick the polish off 😛 they have so many gorgeous colours – the nude pink is definitely a favourite of mine in the shades they sent me. It looks SO pretty on the nails!
