Now lets show you how we created this look!

Silver heart nail art, Valentine's day nail art, base coat nail varnish

STEP 1

First of all it is important to make sure your nails are clean and ready to be painted before we start, so we need to do a little bit of preparation. If you have nail varnish on already, you will need to take it off with some nail varnish remover. After this is done, I usually wash my hands just to just to ensure my nails are completely clean.

Then it’s time to tidy your nails up a little and shape them to how you want them with your file. If you want make your nails appear longer you can push back your cuticles. If you place your hand in some warm water for a few minutes, it will help soften your skin making it easier for you to do this.

Once you are ready, you should apply a base coat to your nail as this will protect your nails from being stained but also will make applying your nail varnish much smoother. We used the Vitamin Base Coat (1) to do this.

STEP 2

Once your base coat is dry (this shouldn’t take too long), we can start moving on to the more exciting parts – deciding what colour you want your nails to be! For this look, we decided to have the ring finger and middle finger as the main focus so we painted them with the nail varnish in the colour Nail Tip Whitener (2) and the rest of the nails with the gorgeous nail varnish in the colour Pink Manicure (3). We applied 2 coats of the nail varnish as this makes sure the nails are covered well.

We recommend you apply two thin coats rather than one thick one as the thicker the coat, the longer it will take to dry.

STEP 3

Once the white nail varnish is dry, it’s time to paint the ring finger with the silver glittery (4) nail varnish!

* If you do use this silver glittery nail varnish – we did have to paint on a few layers on to create the look we did.

STEP 4

After you have finished painting the nail on the ring finger, it’s time to move on to creating the main focus of this nail look on the middle finger nail. To start with, we need to plan where we want the pink stripe to be – to do this we used the straight line stencils (6) and placed them gently over the nail.

It is important you make sure your nail varnish is dry before you place it over your nail as this could take your nail varnish off!

* We did make sure this stripe would be bigger then the heart gem that will be going in the middle of it (as you can see in the final image).

If you don’t have any stencils, it’s okay, you can use tape instead! You can see how we used the tape technique on our tutorial for the Stripe and Flower Nail Look.

STEP 5

Once you are happy with the placement of the stencils, it’s time to paint on the first stripe! We used the gorgeous pink (3) nail varnish that we used on the other nails for this.

When you are painting on the nail varnish on, don’t worry if you get some on the stencil – it protects that part of your nail!

STEP 6

Now it’s time to gently take the stencil off.

STEP 7

After we finished with the pink stripe, we gently placed some more of the straight line stencils (6) down either side of it to plan where we wanted to thinner stripes to be.

STEP 8

Once you are happy with the placement of the stencils, it’s time to paint on the next 2 stripes. We used the flat drawing brush (8) with the nail varnish in the colour Sequin Dream (4) for this.

STEP 9

Now it’s time to gently take off these stencils.

STEP 10

Now it’s time to add the cute small little heart jewel (10)! Firstly, we painted a top coat (5) on the nail to help the jewel stick and then gently placed it in the middle of the big pink stripe.

STEP 11

This look is gorgeous with just the silver heart jewel as the main focus on the middle finger nail so you could finish it there if you wanted to, but we decided to add a little extra! We gently placed a pink gem (11) using the dotting pen (7) above and below the heart on the white nail varnish.

* If the top coat nail varnish is already dry, you may need to add a little bit extra where you want the jewels to be to help them stick to the nail and make it secure.

STEP 12

Now it’s time to add the final touch to the look – some silver gems on the pink nails! To do this we applied a top coat (5) to the nails and then gently placed the silver gems (10) on using the dotting pen (7), in the middle of the nail near the top.

Once you are happy with where the gems are placed, you can apply another layer of the top coat on top of the gems to make them even more secure.

And that’s it! A gorgeous look for your nails this Valentine’s Day! It’s also perfect for everyday wear, parties and any special occasion!

Oh I love anything pink and I love the subtly of the heart to this particular design. I have to say it would way too fiddly for me to do.

Oh yes, it’s such a pretty light pink colour too – I love it! I got a few new things for Christmas, which included them gems and really wanted to give them a try haha. This look is a bire more fiddly with the gems but as long as you are patient and take it slow it should be okay 🙂

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the colours and the attention to detail is amazing! You have a real talent for nail art and always have so many fabulous designs! I find it hard to paint my nails just one colour so this takes some real skill and creativity! Great post! xx

Okay I’m seriously in awe! I can barely muster the patience and skill to do three layers of base and top coats with block colours! Very impressed.

Hahaha, yeah – you do need quite a bit of patience to do nail art but when you see the pretty results, it definitely is worth it haha. Sometimes nothing can beat having just a pretty colour on your nails though 🙂

Aww, thank you. You could start with some more easy things and work your way up. Practice a little and you’ll get a feel of what it’s like and how you find it 🙂 if you can get stencils and such that definitely makes certain nail art stuff a lot easier, just need to be patient and make sure the nail varnish is dry 🙂

Wow this is so pretty! I feel like I do have a flair for art, but nail art is not it. I think it’s mostly because of how small the space is, people who can decorate and make something beautiful are quite talented in my opinion! Thank you for sharing!

I wish I was this talented! This looks lovely! Do you have any tips to make a white nail polish look REALLY white and opaque?

Aww, thank you so much 🙂 hmm.. I haven’t ever done anything different when painting my nails recently to make a white nail varnish really white and opaque. Depending on the nail varnish you have, you may need to paint on a few layers maybe if it’s really thin – thinking about it, in the past I’ve had that a few times with some and I’ve just had to build it up. This natural collection one I’ve used in this tutorial is pretty good (I think I got it from Boots for £1.99!), I’ve also used the Collection one which is – 7 Day Wear Nail Polish, in the colour White Out in a few other posts, such as the Golden heart one I put up yesterday and that one is really good. That one isn’t very expensive either from Boots. Let me know how you get on and I’ll try think of anything else!

Yeah sadly some looks if you want to do quite a bit of detail and add some extra things can take a bit of time! There’s nothing wrong with painting your nails a pretty colour too 😀 thank you!

Aww, thank you so much!! Haha, they are surprisingly pretty tough! I was surprised – I had them on until I went to do the next nail look a week later, and they still were a bit of a struggle to take off haha! 😀

Those heart shaped nail gems are quite possibly the cutest things I’ve ever seen (other than puppies, nothing is cuter than a puppy). Do they come off really easily or do they stick around for a few days? x

Haha, I agree – puppies are the cutest! Surprisingly, they are actually really strong – especially if you apply a top coat over the top of them as well – it helps keep them secure. I had this nail look on for a week, and only took it off to do another nail look! They were still on there and weren’t that easy to get off, so I imagine they could have lasted a lot longer!
